Recaply — Turning My Year Into a Cinematic Wrapped

Why I built Recaply, what it does, and how reflection became a product.

By Adeagbo Tomiwa · Founder & Software Engineer

Every year, we build things, learn lessons, and hit milestones — but most of it disappears into memory. I wanted a simple way to look back at my year: the projects, the growth, the wins, and everything in between.

That curiosity became Recaply.

Recaply turns your year into a cinematic “Wrapped” experience you can watch, download, and share.

Why I Built Recaply

Reflection tools usually feel boring, manual, or overly complex. I wanted reflection to feel:

  • Personal
  • Emotional
  • Visual
  • Worth sharing

Inspired by Spotify Wrapped, I asked a simple question: What if reflection felt cinematic?

How Recaply Works

  • Answer a few guided reflection questions
  • Choose a visual theme and soundtrack
  • Recaply generates a cinematic video
  • Watch, download, and share your recap

The preview video on the site is a real Recaply recap I generated from my own 2025 data 😄

Building It

I designed and built Recaply end-to-end — from product idea to deployment.

  • Product ideation & UX design
  • Frontend & backend development
  • Dynamic recap logic
  • Performance & polish

The biggest challenge wasn’t code — it was pacing, storytelling, and making the experience feel intentional.

Key Learnings

  • People engage more when products trigger emotion
  • Fewer steps lead to higher completion
  • Polish matters as much as features
