Rebranding the CIBN Election Portal – My Week as a Frontend Firefighter

It all started one fine Monday morning when my boss, Mr. Williams, sent a ZIP file to my mail. He said in his mail message to me, “You’ll love this one, it’s the CIBN Election Application Portal. Just rebrand it, change the design, layouts, and make it look better. Find attached below the zip file.” That “make it look better” part sounded simple enough… until I opened the folder. 😅

The Mission

Inside the folder was a maze of HTML, CSS, JS and assets that looked like they had survived a digital hurricane. My first reaction was: “Where do I even start?” But after a few deep breaths (and one strong cup of coffee), I rolled up my sleeves and got to work.

The Chaos

At first, nothing made sense. The color palette looked like it came from 2009, and every page layout had its own personality. Inline styles were everywhere, the kind that make developers question their life choices. There were moments I found myself muttering, “Why is this div floating here? Who gave it permission to do that?”

The Breakthrough

After hours of refactoring, cleaning up the structure, and introducing a more modern layout using Tailwind CSS, everything started to click. I built a cleaner color system, restructured the grids, and gave the landing page a fresh, professional face that truly matched the CIBN brand identity.

The Glow-Up

The Aftermath

When I finally showed it to Mr. Williams, he smiled and gave me a professional handshake and said, “Ah God Bless you! I knew you would deliver.” That was all the validation I needed after just 2 days of tweaking margins and chasing stubborn elements that refused to align.

The project taught me that good design isn’t just about colors and fonts , it’s about structure, balance, and a sprinkle of creative madness. And sometimes, it takes a chaotic ZIP file to remind you how much you’ve grown as a developer. 🚀
